WordPress Website Development

WordPress website development in Mumbai: what a good build looks like

WordPress website development in Mumbai is worth paying for only if the finished site does three things: your team can update it without calling a developer, it loads quickly on a phone, and it is still clean and secure two years later. When a WordPress site disappoints, the cause is usually a heavy page builder, too many plugins or missed updates.

Crystal Design has worked with businesses in Navi Mumbai, Thane and Mumbai since 2015, from our office in Kopar Khairane. Below are the decisions that matter on a WordPress project, what our builds include, and when we would advise you to skip WordPress altogether.

What our WordPress website builds include

Every project is scoped to your business, but a standard build covers the items below. Cost depends on the number of pages, the design approach and extras such as WooCommerce or a second language; see our website packages for what each tier includes.

  • A responsive design for mobile, tablet and desktop, approved by you before development starts
  • A lightweight theme with editable templates for services, projects and blog posts
  • Enquiry forms with spam protection, plus click-to-call and WhatsApp chat buttons
  • On-page SEO setup: titles, meta descriptions, clean URLs, an XML sitemap and business schema
  • Speed work: image compression, caching and lazy loading
  • Security hardening and automated backups in place before launch
  • Training for the people who will edit the site, and handover of the administrator login

Custom theme or page builder: decide based on who will edit

A page builder such as Elementor gives you drag-and-drop control over every layout. A custom theme is coded around your design, and staff change text and images inside fixed templates using WordPress's own block editor.

For most service businesses we recommend a custom theme with a small set of editable blocks. It keeps pages light and stops a hurried edit from breaking the mobile layout.

  • Choose a page builder if you will often redesign landing pages yourself and can accept heavier pages and, in many cases, a paid licence to renew.
  • Choose a custom theme if speed, consistent branding and a short plugin list matter more than layout freedom.
  • Either way, ask for templates rather than blank canvases: a new service or project page should mean filling in fields, not designing from scratch.

Plugins: fewer is faster and safer

Each plugin is third-party code that runs on your site and needs its own updates. Every extra one adds weight and upkeep, and a plugin its developer has abandoned stops getting security fixes. A typical business website needs only a handful.

Before adding one, check when it was last updated, whether it has been tested with your version of WordPress and whether its developer answers support questions. If a few lines of theme code can do the same job, that is usually the better option.

  • An SEO plugin for titles, meta descriptions and the sitemap
  • A forms plugin with spam protection
  • Caching, if the server does not already provide it
  • A security firewall and a backup tool
  • WooCommerce and a payment gateway plugin, only if you sell online

Why WordPress sites get hacked, and how we harden yours

WordPress runs a large share of the world's websites, so attackers use automated bots that scan for known weaknesses in outdated plugins and try common passwords on the login page. Small business sites are usually hit by these scans because they were left unpatched, not because someone singled them out. Typical signs are spam pages in Google under your domain, redirects to betting or pharmacy sites, or a hacked-site warning in search results.

Nulled themes and plugins, meaning pirated copies of paid products passed around on forums and Telegram groups, are the other common cause. Many carry hidden backdoors, and the licence fee saved is small next to the cost of cleaning a hacked site and recovering its search visibility.

The server matters as much as the site: an old shared server running an outdated PHP version undoes much of this work. Our hosting services come with daily backups and free SSL; if you stay with your current host, check that it runs a supported PHP version and keeps backups you can actually restore.

  • Core, theme and plugin updates applied promptly, with major updates tested on a staging copy first
  • Licensed themes and plugins from official sources only, never nulled copies
  • No "admin" username, strong unique passwords and two-factor login; staff get Editor roles, not Administrator
  • Limited login attempts and a web application firewall
  • Daily backups stored away from the server, with a restore actually tested
  • Scheduled malware scans, SSL across the site and a supported PHP version

Speed and SEO foundations we set before launch

Most people will open your site on a phone, often on mobile data, and Google mainly uses the mobile version of a page for indexing and ranking. Before launch we test each template in mobile mode on PageSpeed Insights, convert images to WebP, remove unused fonts and scripts, and serve pages through caching and a CDN.

This is the foundation, not a ranking campaign, and no one can guarantee a ranking. Appearing for searches in Vashi, Nerul or Kharghar takes ongoing local SEO work on content, reviews and your Google Business Profile.

  • Clean URLs such as /services/interior-design/ instead of ?p=123
  • A unique title and meta description for every page
  • An XML sitemap submitted in Google Search Console
  • LocalBusiness schema matching the name, address and phone on your Google Business Profile
  • 301 redirects from every old URL when an existing site is replaced, so the search visibility old pages have earned is not thrown away
  • The "Discourage search engines from indexing this site" setting switched off at launch, a checkbox that is easy to forget

Adding Marathi or Hindi pages, or an online shop with WooCommerce

Many businesses in Navi Mumbai and Thane serve customers who prefer Marathi or Hindi. A translation plugin such as Polylang or WPML can give each language its own URLs, so Google can show searchers the right version, and your team edits translations in the same dashboard. Machine translation alone often reads awkwardly, so have a fluent speaker check the key pages.

WooCommerce turns the same site into a store with a cart, UPI and card payments through an Indian payment gateway plugin, GST details on invoices through an add-on, and shipping rules. It works well when the shop sits alongside a content-rich site. If online selling is the main business, compare it with a Shopify store or our dedicated e-commerce website development service before deciding.

Our WordPress process: brief, staging build, launch and upkeep

A typical project runs in the steps below. Delays usually come from content rather than code, so we agree early on who writes the text and supplies photos.

WordPress is not finished at launch. Core, plugin and theme updates keep arriving, so we recommend a website maintenance plan covering updates, backups, malware scans and small content changes, instead of waiting for something to break.

  • Brief and sitemap: the pages you need, what each must achieve and what you will update yourself
  • Design of the home page and one inner template, revised until you approve it
  • Build on a private staging copy, never on your live site
  • Content entry, image optimisation, and every enquiry form and WhatsApp button tested end to end
  • Speed, SEO and security checks, plus redirects if an old site is being replaced
  • Launch, Search Console setup, editor training and handover of the administrator login

Who WordPress suits, and when a static or custom site is better

WordPress fits businesses that publish or change content regularly: clinics, CA practices, interior designers, real estate brokers, coaching classes, and manufacturers and traders around Mahape, Rabale and Turbhe who need a product catalogue with enquiry forms. It is not always the right answer, though.

We build all of these options, so the recommendation follows your needs rather than a favourite platform. If WordPress is not the right fit, our custom website development team will scope the alternative. For a clear recommendation, contact our team with your current site or a short brief.

  • A static site is better if you update it once or twice a year: it is usually faster, cheaper to keep up and offers far less to attack.
  • A custom-built site is better if you need customer logins, bookings, dealer portals or a close link with your CRM or ERP.
  • A hosted store platform such as Shopify is often simpler if online selling is the main business and orders need handling every day.
Got Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

Usually, yes, if you will add pages, blog posts, projects or offers yourself. If the site will barely change after launch, a static site is faster and needs less upkeep. The deciding question is how often you will edit it, not how big your business is.

Yes. We build templates for your services, projects and posts so you change text and images in fields without touching the layout, and we train whoever will manage the site. Giving day-to-day users Editor accounts means a mistake cannot change settings or remove plugins.

It depends on the number of pages, whether you choose a custom theme or a page builder, and extras such as WooCommerce or a second language. Hosting, domain and yearly maintenance are separate running costs to budget for. Our pricing page lists what each package includes, and we quote once the scope is clear.

Restore a clean backup from before the attack if you have one, then update WordPress, themes and plugins straight away, because the weakness that let the attacker in is still there. Remove unknown administrator accounts and any nulled plugins, and change every admin, hosting, FTP and database password. If Google shows a hacked-site warning, request a review from the Security Issues report in Search Console once the site is clean.

WooCommerce suits businesses that want the store and a content-rich website in one place, with full control over hosting and data. Shopify suits sellers who want the platform to handle hosting, security and checkout in return for a monthly subscription. Both can take UPI and card payments through Indian payment gateways.

You should. Make sure the domain is registered in your company's name and that you hold the WordPress administrator login, not just an editor account. If your developer also hosts the site, ask how you would move it to another host, and keep a recent backup of your own.
